world business situation, teaching method is rigorous. Class lectures are
therefore supplemented by case studies, fieldwork base assignments, industrial
tours, presentations, workshops, seminars, classrooms visits by business
professionals, sessions and broad research works on different economic issues of
Bangladesh. Course curriculum is flexible so that new necessary field of study
can easily be incorporated with every kind of logistic support.
In MBA Program, each student undergoes an extensive

first time when a Bangladeshi university incorporated seminar as a course in the
academic curriculum. The seminar program develops academic as well as
professional skills of the students and they get an opportunity to share their
views with renowned personalities of reputed business houses. The students sit
for an examination based on these seminar papers.

Historical
Background
Jahangirnagar
University is situated at Savar, the capital of the Sambhog principality and a
flourishing Buddhist center of learning in the seventh and eighth centuries AD.
Recent excavations have confirmed the existence of a Buddhist establishment
consisting of a huge stupa and a large monastery with subsidiary structures in
the courtyard dating back to the seventh century.
With
the establishment of the University, Savar is gradually regaining its past
glory. The National Monument, symbolic of the nation's highest and the most
exalted sacrifice in its struggle for independence, gives the place a unique
significance. Other institutions of national importance that have gradually
grown up around the campus include : the Atomic Energy Commission, the Savar
Cantonment, BKSP, the Public Administration Training Centre, the Livestock
Research Institute and the Export Processing Zone.
The
University, named after the old name of Dhaka city, was established in 1970
by
the Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance, 1970 (later
amended as Jahangirnagar University Act, 1973). The
University happens to be the only fully residential university in the country.
Location
Located
on the Asian Highway, popularly known as the Dhaka Aricha Road, the University
is only 32 kilometers away from Dhaka, and is sandwiched by the National
Monument and the Public Administration Training Centre.

The
insignia
The
insignia of the University has a Shapla, the
national flower, with three petals standing erect on its stem. It is bordered on
all four sides by four strips of traditional alpana
design
of the same size and pattern. The name of the University written in Bangla
characters hangs below in semicircle like a wreath of flowers. Designed by Kalam
Mahmud, the insignia is rooted deep in our folk culture and is reminiscent of
our struggle for independence which gave the Shapla
its
status as national flower. The three petals in the flower may be taken to
symbolize learning, truth
and progress and the firm stem, which holds the petals fast and erect, may by
taken to symbolize the determination with which these goals are pursued.
